Galway Tribes Irish Pub & Alehouse

Birthplace of what would become the Tribes Beer Company. RIP Galway Tribes!

Tribes Alehouse in Mokena, Illinois

The favorable response to serving craft beer at the Irish Pub, inspired Tribes Founder Niall Freyne to do more. So, before craft beer was ubiquitous in Chicago, Tribes Alehouse opened in Mokena and made craft beer it’s focus. The rest, as they say, is history.

The overwhelming success of the original Mokena location, pushed Niall to expand, but this time with a much larger place that offered an even great selection of craft beers and a menu comprised of prepared-from-scratch food. One year later, Tinley Park Tribes’ Patio served as the home to Tribes Beer Fest, which not only offered great beer, but assured patrons short lines and access to people associated with the brewery — a true celebration (and education) of craft beer.

Tribes Beer Company - The Brewpub

Why not, right? The next obvious step for Tribes involved an idea of brewing its own beer. The addition of a 7BBL brewhouse turned the Tribes Alehouse into the Tribes Brewpub.

Expanded Beer Production

Increased demand for Tribes Beer Company beer resulted in an expansion of the brewhouse in Mokena, which meant removing part of the dining room. It was obvious that a new, third venue was on the horizon.

Running out of room at the Mokena Brewpub meant Tribes needed to think bigger and bolder. "We really had no choice but to expand," said Niall. "Beer is in our blood, both figuratively and literally. And we needed to make more. Our philosophy on beer is simple. We produce (and will continue to produce) hop-forward beer that tastes like beer - beer that people will order again and again.
